Our Story & Purpose

Experience you can trust to guide you in the right direction.

Find the Right College began because too many families told us they could not find the college search advice they needed. They shared that the advice was scattered, out of date or too hard to understand. Plus, they didn’t know which resources were trustworthy. All of these things make it difficult for families to manage their search and make a great college choice. We developed Find The Right College to address those challenges and support families. And we’re on a mission to help more students find colleges where they’ll thrive.

This mission led us to create a “one stop shop” for helping families. It’s meant to give you everything you need to navigate this crazy process. The Membership Plans cover the fundamentals of each step. It guides you through your college search journey. The Community Membership grants you access to a dynamic “Ask the Experts” Forum, where students, parents and college admissions experts trade questions, experiences and answers to specific aspects of their search. We guarantee all of the questions asked in the “Ask the Experts” Forum are answered within a day. The Personalized Membership adds one-on-one consulting with an admissions expert. We give you three choices, because we know not everyone has the same needs.

Membership grants you 24/7 access to everything, so make sure and take advantage of our blog, videos and other content. These resources will give you a small taste of both the curriculum as well as our insights. If you like what you find, share them with a friend! We are putting our knowledge and experience to work for you because we care about your success.

Our commitment is to put your interests first.

Our Founders

The Find the Right College founders began their collaboration based on a shared realization that many families are not getting the information they need. Their shared vision was to combine their complementary backgrounds and create a better resource to help more families at an affordable price.

Dr. Nicole Cook

Dr. Nicole Cook

Helping students achieve their goals, dreams and ambitions has been a cornerstone of Dr. Cook’s professional life. She has worked on the inside of college admissions, as well as counseling students and families as they apply, helping them to achieve best possible college outcomes in terms of college choice, financial options, and holistic fit. Initially from Nashville, TN, Dr. Cook completed a Bachelors at Vanderbilt University, followed by a Masters degree from Columbia and a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. She spent time in the admissions office at Vanderbilt, her alma mater, reviewing applications and actively recruiting students.  Dr. Cook combines this admissions experience with her education and vast counseling experience to better serve families looking to send their college applicant to the school which fits best. In a volunteer capacity, she has spent three years serving on the board of the Southern Association for College Admissions Counseling, overseeing the distribution of grant and scholarship funds that help counselors and students, and volunteers with other SACAC programs regularly. A dedicated mother, Dr. Cook loves the time that she spends with her family — keeping her busy and laughing.

Fitz Totten

Fitz Totten

Fitz has committed his career to advocating for higher education. Following his graduation from Denison University, he worked in three highly selective admissions offices. First, he joined the admissions team at a small liberal arts college, St. Lawrence University; second, he worked at the Duke University School of Law. While there, he also received a MA from Duke University. Subsequently, Fitz worked in Vanderbilt University’s Undergraduate Admissions Office. Fitz then entered into enrollment marketing and consulting at EAB-Royall; there he, ultimately, served as the Principal for Client Leadership. In his roles, he led teams that partnered with more than 100 Chief Enrollment Officers from a remarkably wide range of colleges and universities. During his 16 years, the company quintupled its enrollment services partnerships. Within his hometown community, Fitz has served on the YMCA Greater Richmond Strategic Alignment Board and the A Grace Place Board. He also served on the Board for his high school alma mater, Trinity Episcopal School, for eight years.
